Choosing a Builder

## What should I look for when choosing a builder in Melbourne?

The most important thing is accountability. A good builder names the person who will run your project and keeps that person consistent from contract to handover. If the company cannot tell you exactly who will be on your site every week, that is a warning sign.

Beyond that, look for:

- A current VBA domestic builder’s licence you can verify online
- Proof of domestic building insurance on every contract
- A fixed-price or clearly scoped contract with an explicit variation process
- References from completed projects, not renders of future ones
- Financial stability — ask how long they have been trading and whether they have outstanding VCAT disputes
